Back to Life in Virtual Reality.

The Pilfershire of Simsbury Virtual Reality Project aims to revive a now abandoned and preserved territory that was once a prosperous, thriving community of farmers in Connecticut. Its purpose is double:

  • establishing an exercise of virtual archaeology over the territory through the creation of a laboratory for the testing of hypotheses about the history of the built environment and productive landscape of Pilfershire.
  • create a simulation that allows visitors to explore a physicality that no longer exists, adding a layer of information that further informs about the history and ways of life of Connecticut rural history.

With these goals in mind, we propose to establish a dialogue between the ongoing historical research over the territory and modern technology — the final object will be a freely-visitable, interactive simulation in the virtual world of Second Life®.

Here is presented a first, very rough, video of a short wander through a demonstration space for a virtual Pilfershire.
